This might have been my favorite thing today, well almost. We started with most of our group in shorts and water socks.

Checked the water levels expected

Had some beautiful views of the area near Mt of olives, much of it is a jewish cemetery

Our guide read from the old testament, not only about Hezekiah but also Saul being anointed as King right below us

There is still alot of excavation going on and archaeologists just recently found scroll seals listing all four names in Jeremiah thirty-eight in this room below us, also seals of Hezekiah

So the Gihon spring was sealed off outside of the city and the people of Jerusalem under king Hezekiah carved a water tunnel over five hundred meters long to bring the water to a lower pool where everyone could access it. And they did this fast because they feared an attack.

It was only deep for the first little bit

But it got low and narrow in places, an amazing digging effort for that time. We were walking like this in single file for thirty minutes.

At the end it flows into this, the pool of siloam. Not sure if these were just seats or toilets.
What a fun adventure
