Tour day eight

We load the bus in pouring rain this morning, all of us a little disappointed since we are driving around the Sea of Galilee today

After several minutes of riding in silence our witty and lovable driver pipes up with a loud and heavy Hebrew "hallelujah!" - they have not had rain since about April.

We drive along the east side of the sea and come by the place where Jesus healed the man with a legion of demons

Our first stop is another kibbutz with a very old farm at the south end of sea. This member of the community gives us his perspective of growing up when this area of three borders was being fought over. Their farm was destroyed at least once and they had to rebuild. He points out the precious water nearby of the Jordan and another tributary they can access. A fence was eventually put in and now they live quite peacefully close along the Jordan and Syrian border.

You can see the hill and village on the right background is Jordan, just five hundred meters from here. One of the farmers smiles "don't touch the fence or the army will come"

Lots of nursery talk and they take us through the orchards to pick grapefruit

Really interesting history about how the Israelis first figured out the benefits and technicalities of using drip irrigation.

And the skies clear with a lovely rainbow over the lake
