Continuing along the dead sea we learn lots about this amazing place, way below sea level it is the lowest place on earth. And losing one Meter per year.

We also hear the story of Masada, where the last of the Jewish revollt held out until the Romans came for them. It ties in to the same time period of Herod and the cliff I flew over a few days ago.

You can walk to the top if you are crazy or take this speedy cable car.

First it was built as a getaway palace for Herod, you can see his three elaborate levels on the north side. On top was lots of walls and structures for his soldiers.

But later the Jews lived here for six years before choosing death over slavery to Rome.

They have reconstructed much of the walls and rooms but have a painted line that indicates the original structures height.

It is also the only place in the world to have a Roman seige ramp still in place.
