Tour day nine - Jerusalem

We continue south for over an hour and cross into the occupied territories, the Jordan River is close with the border fence and Jordan villages in the distance

We get to Jericho, where the children of Israel crossed over, where Elijah was taken up to heaven and where Jesus was baptized. Our guide points out how these events were symbolically related. That sharp ridge in the distance is also where Jesus was tempted at a high place.

Next is driving up through the wilderness of Judea

It looks rather third world before we cross the border again.

When you get to the top of the climb, there is a tunnel and on the other side is Jerusalem. We pull off to a lookout for this beautiful sunset view

Our guide had planned to read the story of Abraham sacrificing isaac and offer a jewish blessing for us first time visitors. It was really special in spite of a very noisy group next to us blowing a shofar horn.

Tomorrow is a full day here
