Last stop -part two

Trying to beat the rain, we get an early start on foot from our great little hotel

Mars Hill has a great view from under the acropolis. Although the speech given by Paul to the Athenians was probably looking the other way down to the marketplace, or Agora, which was filled with statues and temples.

One of those is this temple, Hephaistus, which is more intact than the Parthenon

There is also another church from later centuries, that had this beautiful fresco or mosaic of Jesus in the dome

Lastly we went through the museums, although the rain had not started. So many many significant broken pieces from all the pediments, friezes and metatopes of the structures it was overwhelming. And the pottery was extensive.

This was an interesting piece, in order to determine who got jury duty they would put names in these slots. Then colored balls were randomly dropped down a tube on the side which determined which row of people had to serve. We also walked by a large rotunda where they held their voting events in Athens, appropriate since election results were coming in on our phone at that very hour.

Can you imagine training your toddler on this potty chair

This bronze shield was from a spartan, which was a disgrace to be here, all of them were supposed to die with their shield.

Sorry, we got a little silly with all these statues after a few hours, you cannot believe how many there are.

The rain did show up in late afternoon

Perfect time to start or outdoor cafe tour for our last evening.
