I made the mistake of not posting daily once we arrived in Athens. Now it is overwhelming to think about all we have seen here. Let alone recap the vast periods of history and culture this city has been through. So for what it is worth, here are the highlights of our two wonderful days here.

This city has so many ruins you cannot begin to capture them, even though we started out trying.

We started at the base of the acropolis where the very first theatre (of Dianysos) is located, as well as this massive structure, more of an opera house, which still hosts performances. Much of it is reconstructed. Its the Herodeum odeum.

We walked up through the main entrance of the acropolis, which included a statue of Athena at one time, her spear held high could be seen glinting in the sun from ships in the sea.

The main attraction, Parthenon, which has been several different places of worship over the centuries, as well as a defensive post, and eventually getting bombed. They are continually reconstructing it.

This side show temple has these graceful female columns called caryotids. These are replicas, but we viewed the originals in the museum at the bottom of the hill.

Since the forecast was rain we spent the rest of the day at the sea, after successfully executing or first Uber ride. That was so easy. We walked for a long way along beaches and marinas. When we were tired we just summoned another driver who is right there at the curb in minutes.
