Tour day six - Golan Heights

We left the coast behind and headed up the valley into mostly Arab Israeli villages with a discussion by Lior of how they the politically united with thembut still segregated in many ways.
We get to the kibbutz village where the jeep guides live and load up,

Noting the bomb shelters in the background

Someone asks Lior how close we will get to the Syrian border and he says very close. Eyebrows raise as he also points out the little yellow signs along the fence warning of mines, and we begin seeing them everywhere

But we also notice farming alongside the abandoned fields, even cows and someone asks if they ever get blown up. Aaron pipes up from the driver seat. Yes, and then we have steaks.

Next we pass a UN post with soldiers from Fiji at the gate. Yes it gets stranger as we go along

We find out these cement barriers along the road are for field workers to take shelter in case of bombs

And next we stop to pick some apples because this is a horticulture tour after all and their are lush orchards everywhere. Well except for the field of mines or those with war bunkers or those with burned ground from fire

We finally reach this fence of barb wire through which you can see the real fence that Israel put up, a crossing point and behind that Syria's fence. Strangely it is quite peaceful with a tractor working nearby.
