More layers as we continue to the Bahai gardens in Haifa, did I mention we moved on from Tel Aviv
On the way, we see signs and hear talk of Carmel and suddenly realize the Bible layer of the time of Elijah is where we are. It is really a rocky Ridge and this shot shows what looks like a cave so you can imagine the Bible stories here.

As we climb to the top of Carmel we are overlooking the bay of Haifa and can see the northern border of Israel with Jordan. So the scene of Elijah doing battle with Jezebel is now completely covered with city. There is a monastery built over the cave it is believed where he stayed. But since Haifa has become the Center of the Bahai faith there is a massive garden of nineteen terraces that has our interest

If you are Bahai you can walk from the bottom up. If you are not you can walk from the top down. If you miss your tour time, as we did, you can only see the top few levels. Eight levels down is a mausoleum with gold dome, then another eight levels. The landscapers among us are in heaven, very impressive and beautiful.

Then we drive to the bottom and look up eight terraces to the dome.

And next we have more Israeli food and this, a limonada, lime and mint.

Layers covered.
Elijah, pre-statehood history, Bahai religion established here, horticulture and delicious Israel.
