I forgot to bring this up to current times. Jaffa port was also the crusaders and pilgrims starting point. And this gate is called Jerusalem gate as it points that way

And in Jerusalem there is the gate called Jaffa that points back here
We also visited the Palmach museum which were the freedom fighters in the independence war.
