Before heading out on our road trip, we had a birthday to celebrate. A little pumpkin treat helped us say Happy Birthday to the 24-year-old!

Our first stop was the restoration-in-progress of Montpelier.

Have you noticed that it is October? We were reminded of this as we started our drive up to the mountains where we saw my blog title on a reader board. We were also reminded that we are in the south.

It was a beautiful day

so we took a little hike, comparatively little, that is.

Hubby was challenged by many of the trees he did not recognize

and then the trail began to challenge us.

But when we got to the top,

it was worth it. It usually is, y'all.

The remaining drive down the Blue Ridge Highway

had many viewpoints,

we couldn't begin to see them all,

but we did pause at several.

I recognized this plant that grew in the ditches back home. I kind of miss it.

Last of all we stopped at the spot where the great surrender happened between Generals Lee and Grant. A very nice way to spend a road trip.
