Missed It

Imagine facing yet another gloomy, rainy day this week, trying not to think about all the sun and optimism that you don't have. Then imagine something wonderful happening that is far and above the most extraordinary event of your week, maybe your whole month. It was so extraordinary that you forgot to get a photo. Missing the shot tells alot about this day.

Well, that was me, two days ago, when I suddenly got a call on my cell that Lois was here to see me. Lois? I'm not expecting any Lois today. Let's see there's Lois from church - last summer we were getting together over alterations of bridal attire, but nothing like that on my schedule this summer (cue deep, satisfying breath).

There's Lois, my daughter's mother-in-law. She would have called if she was planning to visit, and for that matter if she was taking a vacation she would go see my daughter & son-in-law, not me, who are on the other side of the continent. Can't be her.

Then there's Lois, my daughter's other mother, from California. They could be in town I suppose, but they wouldn't come this time of year when they could stay in the sun.

No, this Lois turned out to be a Lois I had not seen in over 30 years! A South Dakota Lois I remember as 19 years old with thick, long blond hair, an infectious laugh and laid back attitude that taught me a little about how to enjoy life. I dropped everything I was doing and rushed back to the office to see her (and her hubby). The long blond hair was no more but the laugh and laid back enjoyment of life had not changed. Which explains the spontaneous decision to drop in on us.

SO glad she did. Turns out her daughter ended up attending college where my son is attending. And I am SO glad the world is so small.

This must be the week for South Dakotans to travel. And I would post pictures, but we've been too busy getting sunburned.
