Seriously

My youngun, the animal caregiver, and I have been trying to get educated on what to expect when our herd increases. We found Lambing 101 online and saw some eye-opening visuals. This is very serious business it turns out. But it also cracks me up most of the time.

So the first thing to watch for as we approach the due date is "bagging up". That term alone immediately causes me to wonder "why up?". From the photo we saw labeled "a well extended udder" I would definitely choose "out" or "down" instead of "up". But whatever.

So we came in for a closer look. Not only us, but all the other farm animals had to get in close as well. Our ewes are not supposed to get overly stressed. These guys weren't a problem but the dog broke in and sent them running way too fast for their heavy weight and very skinny legs.

We looked and looked but pretty much saw nothing. No udder visible at all, but we trust they'll have the right plumbing when the time comes.

It is sort of hard to tell with all that wool but apparently they have a ways to go.
