After finally getting my head above water since returning home this week, it is time to face hard farm facts.
We lost one of our sweet alpacas while I was away, the black one pictured here whom we called Gev. He was the one who would eat from my hand, which Ernest, the lighter one, has never warmed up enough to do.
He will be missed.
We have been told that they are tough animals but at the same time can suddenly get sick and die quickly. My biology youngun tells me that they just studied about the multiple parasites that live in pasture grass, especially when there is mixed company crowded into a small pasture. Which is what we've had to do b/c of the coyote problem.
Mrs. Coyote has been threatening other neighbors' chickens and pets also. And she has been spotted with her babies so no doubt she is hungry. I'm glad I haven't seen the babies b/c somebody is likely to take them out very soon.
Like I said, life is hard out there.
