Demo memo

On the weekend, first we did this:

We did 300 square feet of this, hubby is just in for the photo op. My son and I wheeled out most of the 30+ loads of this lovely soil. And it was all put to very good use in other parts of the yard.

Then we did this to the sidewalk: Little by little everything has been sacrificed in the demo - the lilac that was about to bloom, a long row of peonies with buds already opening, we have no mercy for anything that was.

All that's green is either ripped out or chewed up by this:

The problem is we keep planning parties in the midst of the yard madness. Most of the 10th grade class is coming over for a bonfire next weekend. And we scratch our heads wondering where in all this mud we could find somewhere green to have a party...

there is that field next door, only separated from us by a few strands of barb wire ...

Meanwhile, back on the farm

Wait, I used that title already - truth is, all my posts could fit under that title. So let's call this one "just 2 more drying days".

That's what hubby said right after he did this to our yard and then it rained, hard. Being a farm boy, son of farm boy, son of ... for many generations he well knows when he can dig his tractor and plow back into that terra firma without ruining things. We should already have our lawn seed in the ground and it would be sprouting as we speak.

But all progress has halted and no more is getting done. and it's been warm and dry for many glorious days. Since it would be smart to put in irrigation first we are waiting for the powers that be to layout the design. Patience, these things take time. And work.

This is my backyard.

This is my front yard and the circle drive.

This is my creek view side. Yeah, the side where the wedding reception will take place - read - panic!!

This is where the paver patio will go.

OK, I'll just focus on this one green spot on the property and hum Canon in D.
Hmmmmm Hmmmm Hmmmmmmm hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Brat Book

You don't even wanna know what attack puppy did to the back side of my cell phone. At least it still works, more than I can say for my last drive-over phone accident. I'm not eligible for a phone upgrade till August - do you think I can last till then??

Brag Book

This is attack puppy's new trick - actually, she has two new things. The other one is swimming! Good thing it's getting warmer.

About those whiskers

I've never really learned to ride a horse - it scares me a little to tell you the truth.
The thought of such large animals that can sense what i'm thinking spooks me. Except this one who is small and playfull-looking. My attack puppy was terrified the whole time she accompanied me AND she succeeded in shooing at least this one away from me with her wild and menacing yelps.
But these new neighbors of mine are downright friendly. I was about to pet them when one bared his teeth and tried to nip one of his friends - those teeth are big!
Hey - I've met you before!

A Simple How To Lesson

Contrary to what you might think, a pond is much harder to take apart than to put in. First you have to drain all the water, and remove the decorative rocks. You can tell the difference between decorative rock and support rock by the amount of slime. Then you must rescue the fish and frogs and anything else living down in that slime.

Once you've got the water out you might think you're nearly done. But that's just when the real work begins. In fact it was so much work I forgot to take pictures. Or maybe it was so slimy and muddy that I couldn't risk it.

Once we got this far we had a large hole in the ground which now needs to be filled up by shoveling in alot of dirt. But since we had already put in a day's work we just decided to have a party. An old dug out pond makes a very nice pit for a huge bonfire. But it doesn't look very appealing the next day.

Meanwhile, back on the farm

This is what happens when you let a farm boy loose with his tractor and plow. I love you, honey, but that is waaayyy more garden than I am gonna weed.

Did I mention that we're having spring?!!
