I was just shopping the other night for employee door prize gifts for our Christmas party and I happened to wander into the toy section. Suddenly I realized it has been a long time since I've combed through those aisles looking for the perfect child's gift. You know, the one that has some shred of play or learning value, will not just get tossed aside after a few minutes and forever be something you're having to pick up off the floor. Add to that the new worries about lead poisoning and you can just watch the tension build. As I looked around at all the parents and grandparents with this stress and indecision written all over their faces, I felt smugly happy!
Dramatically easier was my simple choice of getting either the red or blue puppy stocking and for Miss Kitty, they only had one kind to pick from! Life is so good with grandpets!

Very tactful!
Tactful answer to permit-driving daughter's question, "Dad, am I like the worst driver you have trained so far? C'mon how did I do?"
Answer: "Well, I would say you're in the top 5"
(Congrats, girl, you passed!)

Waiting
I'm just sitting here waiting for one more young driver to emerge from the DMV. AND make it home safely on her maiden voyage. Why does this last child have to be born in the worst weather of the year. I so much prefer drivers in training on dry roads and in sunshine. Sigh....
