Yep, it's time once again for another post. I'm sure that my (ahem..) readership of three have been on the edge of their seats for days.
Well, this example comes to you from one of my dear daughters, the one that drops in regularly and just takes over parenting for us. Yesterday, we nearly decided to just turn over the reins of the "young teens" to her and head for Mexico. It might have something to do with the fact that it was the night before Thursday, when my favorite cruise ship offers a great bridge cam view of pulling out of our favorite tropical harbor. Ahhhh......
Where was I? Oh yes, my daughter comes for her weekly visit and, as usual, brings me something good to eat! The thing about that is, it's always something completely unusual. I mean, it is always "gather round the good stuff" when she's in the kitchen! Like this week she brings a little tub of clotted cream and this cute jar of raspberry curd. Now how in the world does one find something like that on the grocery shelf, much less even know it exists or what it's good for? Is stuff like that ever on the end cap, where I can do most of my shopping without ever breaking a rolling stop? If it doesn't easily fall into my cart I probabaly don't need it. All that other stuff is just shelf clutter in my opinion. Nobody ever buys those weird things!
Wrong. Maybe it's her library research experience that takes her to the most remote corner of the store to uncover such treasures. Maybe she has a different perspective on shopping. Maybe she just pays attention! Whatever the quirk she has that I definitely have not, I really enjoyed spreading that stuff on my scone! It was amazing.
So, that got me to thinking - I wonder what I'm missing in other areas? (this is where it's a good thing I don't get many comments) Obviously when I don't even open the Word, I'm missing out entirely. But when I read it with a "same old, same old" perspective, do I skim right past the good stuff and only pick up the well-used ideas? If I paid attention expecting to find a new treasure, what might I come home with? Do you sometimes, like me, just roll past the end caps of Scripture and rush off with only a few basics to take home?
